A question about double sided scrapbooking paper?
I am new to scrapbooking so bare with me…
My scrap book comes with 12×12 paper. I don’t know why double sided paper would matter since you’re going to be gluing the paper to the thicker white paper that comes with the scrap book. How will anyone see the other side? Sorry if these seems like a dumb question. If you’re supposed to replace the white page with the double sided paper shouldn’t it be very thick like the white paper that comes with the scrapbook? It would have to be thick to put designs and embellishments on. Most scrapbooking paper is like normal paper, at least the ones I have seen so far, maybe a little thicker but not as thick as the white paper that comes with the book. Help.
Part of the appeal is that you can use either side of the paper, so that instead of buying 20 sheets of paper to get ten sheets each of two designs, you can just buy 10 sheets and use whichever design you prefer for a design element. Also, you can fold the paper over in some parts, for example, turn down a corner, and you can have the other design showing. You CAN cut out different bits from other designs, this is just easier. In other cases, the paper is attached with an eyelet, or a bit of string, and can be flipped over so that the other side is seen. So, now you know why some scrapbooking paper is double sided.
Scrapbooking paper should be archival quality, that is, it should be acid free and shouldn’t deteriorate nearly as much as regular paper tends to. Look at some older books sometime, especially cheap paperbacks, and you will see that the pages are brownish yellowish color, which is called tanning, and sometimes with speckles of darker color, which is called foxing. These books were made from very cheap paper, which had a lot of impurities and acid in it, and that’s why they show their age. These books were published without regard to how they’d hold up over time. On the other hand, scrapbooking paper is meant to withstand the passage of time, because some scrapbookers want to hand the books down to their kids and grandkids.
